Radishes

My son has been learning about growing plants and vegetables at nursery over the last few months and he really got into it, i built him a raised planter that he could grow vegetables in at home and he decided he wanted to grow radishes, i followed the instructions on the seed packet and spaced out the holes for the seeds, he wanted to put the seeds in himself so there's probably 20 seeds in each hole!

There are a lot of leaves and they are growing quite tall, do they need thinning out and how do you know when they are ready?

definitely want thinning out, with modern seeds you can sow them quite thinly, radishes are pretty bombproof things to grow,you will know when they are ready trust me..
The danger is leaving them to long so they go all woody..

If he grows more sow them in the shape of his initials. My daughter loved watching her initials growing.

Yes, thin to about 2-3 inches apart. You will know they are ready because they poke above the surface looking plump and tasty.

With radishes you can just scatter the seed and tread or firm them in, I like gness's idea. Keep up the good work, it's great to hear of children doing something constructive
