A half glazed internal door has broken can I replace it with float or do i need safety glass
The internal hall door (think 1890s terrace vesible) which is half glazed, the glass has broken, can I just replace it with 4mm or 6mm float / obscured or do i need to get safety glass put in. actually i dont think 6mm will fit in the recess. trying to understand building regs... there seems to be information on new installs but not existing.
I would not know but in your private residence I'd suspect you could use what you liked, but why risk something other than safety glass ? One strong gust, a slammed door, you or your family covered in lacerations ?
Building regs can't make you fit safety glass, Rosy ............. but, if you order from a glass merchant, they'll usually advise it for doors for the reason the others have given.
New work would have to be either 6mm laminated, or 4mm toughened.
Do go for it. It really is better for peace of mind.
