Does any one know how easy (or difficult) itmight be to get allotment use on a green space near where Ilive? It gets very wet in winter and clay baked in summer. Not brilliant I know.

Its not classed as playing field or anything ( I dont think), though folk do use it for football knock abouts, motorbikes race across it and dog walkers go across also.

Is there special ways to ask the council? SorryI sound a bit of a bimbo.

Your local town council will have a parks and allotments department, but you can't just set up an allotment wherever you like, there are designated places and they are licensed.
Sounds like the area you describe is designated as an open space - you'd need to check with the council. No special ways, just ring them up or go and see them.
Approach the council and ask them about it .. in the current financial climate all local councils are thinking of cutting and not spending. and creating an allotment would be spending.

What area are you in (postcode)... as I know of a company who are spreading their wings across the UK, and are always on the lookout for a community project to give themselves a bit of positive local exposure. (they have money and the labour ).

... another alternative .. http://www.landshare.net/ .. you never know until you ask. You may be surrounded by people who want to share in your area.

Oops Im sorry Boxtops and Alavahalf,I havent been on the forum for a while, thank you both for your input.

Boxtops....I think the land I mentioned is an open space and therefore no good for growing.

Alavahalf.....Im in NN3, this company sounds fairly interesting. I had a look at the landshare project a while ago too.

Thankyou again both ;)
You need to ask the council if there are spaces and get your name on a list.
Also do what i did if you know that there are plots of the beaten track go and ask on the site, the allotment group where i am is well out of sight so not many notice them, this means through natrual wastage there were plot going.
out of sight out of mind as they say.
There is aslo a thing if you have a social or community group they can almost get a plot nearly right away for you think it may be round about a group of eight .
hope that helps and good growing when you get one.
