I have 6 different Acers in my garden that are a delight to look at as they come into leaf. My question is as follows: Is it possible to keep a dwarf Acer (seen in my local garden centre yesterday) indoors in a reasonable size pot/tub ? Any help would be appreciated.

Lucky you fbg, they're lovely aren't they?  I have one small acer which has lived happily in a very large pot for several years& it looks like being in there for several more.  The reason being that the pot is slightly 'bellied' & I can't get the acer out without risking damaging the roots. Not a wise move on my part, if you plant in a pot better make it a straight sided one & don't forget that it will need watering & feeding more than those in the ground. I bet your garden is beautiful in the autumn too.

I have several bonsai and all the books and experts I've spoken to at shows(I've asked them a similar question) say it is very difficult to keep acer's and Japanese maples indoors.  I have three acer's as bonsai and they are all kept outdoors.

You may see the odd one or two in garden centre's but they wouldn't last too long.

Outdoors, yes, indoors no. What you can do provided that you don't keep the room too warm is have them in for viewing for 2 or 3 days then put them outside again. Mist well while they are indoors

Many thanks for your answers, it has helped me to decide.
Oops so sorry I was very tired when I replied yesterday & didn't see the word indoors - must pay better attention!  My acer is outdoors in a sheltered position.
