Worcester junior 2.8i - sometimes no hot water

I am hoping someone can advise on this as my plumber (who knows it is an intermittent problem) has just charged me £45 to say 'no fault found'.
Sometimes (not often) I can't get any hot water at all. Then when I try again an hour or so later, I can get hot water.
Initially when it first happened I had to turn on the central heating to get some water. Last night I couldn't get any hot water, so turned the heating on, but that wouldn't come on either. This morning it is all working fine. Could it be some sort of sensor getting stuck?

I would like to be able to point the plumber in the right direction as I have used him for the past 25 years but he has admitted that he 'doesn't fully understand these new boilers'. Many thanks

then he cant be a Gas Safe Registered plumber (this replaced the corgi approved) he should know all about the new equipment on the market
dont not employ a non registered .you can check who is on the gas approved web site free

Hi - he is on the Gas Safe register (I have checked) but he is near retirement age so I suppose he is not so familiar with the newer boilers as he was years ago .....

but as their web site states they have to take an exam at regular intervals to make certain they are up on the new technology. i dont think he should have charged you anything its his fault he couldn't fix it , blow the call out charge !

I'm afraid the most important thing is that you need a Heating Engineer rather than a conventional plumber. All the respect in the world to decent, experienced tradesmen, but it's rather a speciality these days keeping up with the technology.
There are so many sensors/electronics/valves etc that could cause this problem.

I have had a look in the local listings for Heating Engineers and unfortunately it would seem that everyone wants to call themselves a heating engineer, even those who have just done a C&G course ...... so I am at a bit of a loss here and would hesitate before trusting them to know what they are doing. It seems I may need to wait for the boiler to completely pack up before someone can be sure of finding the fault, as I can't afford to keep paying out £45 for someone to take a look and tell me again that they found no faults. Very frustrating!

I am just wondering is this a property you have recently moved into? if so could you get in touch with the previous owners/tenants to see if they experienced these problems and if they have a contact number for the fitter of the c/h if no luck look up the boiler make on the internet and see if the manufacturers can put you in touch with an engineer that deals with this boiler in your area

Pizza - I have owned the property for ages and had this boiler fitted approx 8 years ago by the plumber referred to above. He is normally quite good and cheap but strangely seems more obsessed by the fact that I got married a couple of years ago (and didn't mention it to him!) than with fixing my boiler .... strange
