I have just bought a water feature and lights for the garden.  Both need to be fitted with an RCD.  Can I buy one RCD plug and plug it into the mains then plug a 2 gang extension into the RCD and then finally plug each piece of equipment into the entension?  Is it better to have the RCD plugged in at the mains outlet itself or is it beter to have an rcd on each device then plug the RCDs into a 2 gang extension?  Thanks

You would be okay connecting both loads to one RCD. The RCD should be rated at 30mA (ie it trips when a leakage of 30mA or greater) and an amperage rating above the sum of the two loads.

You may already have one on the meterboard in which case you don't need another. Another option is to replace an existing double socket with one with an RCD.
