My motorhome fridge will work off gas, off the engine when it's running, but not when it's put on mains power supply. As soon as mains is switched on,a red light flashes continously & fridge makes a clicking noise as it searches for another power supply. Power is getting to the fridge & freezer because when i open door the light comes on. I'm presuming the 12volts side of the system is working ok, which is needed to make the whole system work, because its ok when operated from a running engine. Tried different power leads. Fridge was working ok prior to checking it out. Can manage using it off gas ,but like the extra option. Fridge is Electrolux Dometic RM 4505, Welcome any suggestions

You could phone Dometic and ask for advice on likely causes - in my experience they are very helpful. I believe that what may be the problem is that the 230V heater element has failed and therefore the controls sense that there is no circuit and raises the alarm. I am not familiar with your precise model but all of these fridges operate on the same principle of the cooling circuit receiving its energy in the form of heat. If you are prepared to do the repair yourself then you can get at the back of the fridge, trace the mains wiring and pull out the element which will look a bit like a cigar tube. Disconnect it and wire it up separately to mains voltage - if it fails to heat up then you have found your problem. Good luck.

Iv'e decided to leave the problem for the time being, i'm going away Monday for a week so i,ll use gas for fridge & look into it when i get back. Iv'e been looking at it again today checking a few things out & think it may be the heater element. Many thanks for the helpfull replies
A mains switching relayt somewhere .. You need to find the fridge mains connection point to test it while rigging mains connection.
Not an American MH is it?

Yes allbags, that looks like possibly another likely answer to the problem. With the dangers of what can go wrong other than checking with a multipoint tester, reckon i'll leave this to the more qualified. At least i'll be covered if things go amiss. Thanks for your advice
