I am not sure about a car but I have noticed in the run up to elections, people have wooden boards planted in their front gardens, or leaflets in their windows, with the party they support, and that seems to be legal.  Also people often display leaflets in their windows with schools or church fayres etc.

I'm presuming you have a neighbour who is selling cars from his front garden?

Carrying out a retail business from a residential location is really a planning issue - try phoninging your council's planning office, they should be able to advise what is acceptable and what is not.
