Gas And Electric Tariffs

With my fixed rate deals coming to an end on 1st October, I've just looked online at what my supplier (E.ON Next) is offering. No fixed rate deals at the moment, so my gas unit price would increase from 3.1p to 14.76p per kWh - an astonishing 365% - and the electricity standing charge up from 18.2p to 49.15p per day.

It does say that those figures have not factored in the recent help the government has offered, but those figures are eye-watering.

Have any ABers found anything better than this, or is everyone being hit to the same extent?

I am trying the Ostrich approach to fuel costs.

I am considering spending more tile in my Oxfam voluntary job to help me cut back on usage.

My flat is impossible to heat but as long as the pipes don't freeze up I think that I will be okay.

I have plenty of fat to keep me warm.

Do you know what your tariffs will rise to?
I'm with Scottish Power. I will check in the morning - I can't access it from this tablet.
Sounds about right Goodgoalie; hence the genuine concern and recent demand for action.

My EON Next tariff unit price for electricity is 32p peak/day and 17p offpeak. Thats huge! We dont have gas or oil.
The most recent (Liz Truss) cap on rates is:

Gas
Unit rate: 10.30p per kWh
Standing charge: 28.49p per day
Electricity

Unit rate: 34.00p per kWh
Standing charge: 46.36p per day

So you should benefit from that and see new tariffs announced soon.
I logged into my Scottish Power account and spent what felt like three weeks trying to find the tariff.

My Gas: 6.987 per unit
with a 25.92 daily standing charge

My Electricity: 26.577 per unit
with a daily standing charge of 47.67

My monthly payment has already gone from about £70 to £120 and I expect it to rise further.

For someone on a restricted income or someone with kids (or heat-hungry cats), it must be frightening not knowing if they can afford the extra costs.

See what Martin Lewis says but am expecting all to charge the same unit rate ... the max allowed by the new cap. Can't see how any will be charging less .. also no point on fixing?
If you fixed it would be higher and wouldn't benefit from the cap

Thanks for the replies.

Maydup, those capped figures seem better, but not that much - are they the final ones, do you think, or is there more to come? The increases are almost unbelievable, especially so for me as my payments have not gone up at all as yet because I'm on fixed tariffs. I've heard nothing from E.ON Next.
Question Author
I've just spoken to someone at E.ON Next, and they said that the unit prices for electricity and gas are now likely to be about 33p and 10p, although they don't yet appear on the quote on my online account.

This seems to agree with what Martin Lewis suggested last night. Has anyone had confirmation from their supplier of their new tariffs?

No change to the outrageous standing charges, though.
No company is going to offer better than the new cap. Pointless looking for deals, a lot of companies are refusing to take new customers.
Question Author
It seems like everyone is now going to be paying just about the same. So much for 'competition in the market' !
GG, you are seeing a big increase but how much did you save during the period of the fixed rate?
GG, if you want competition, scrap the price cap and let the companies sell at the true cost. We'd have far more to complain about then.
Question Author
No idea how much I saved, but I'm certainly going to suffer now - for example, even if the gas unit price goes up to around 10p, that's three times what I'm paying now.
The majority of us have been suffering huge increases for months.
Mine has more than doubled… won’t bankrupt me though so that’s good.
My council tax is less this year so that helps as well
GG, why did you take a fixed rate if not in the hope of saving money?

You have benefited so you cannot mump about the big increase.
why not - people are allowed to moan about anything they want surely?
