Repairs to roof

Will all builders/roofers add VAT to the price of mending a gable end? Or is it just when the bill is over a certain amount? Thanks for any answers in advance.

Please anyone know the answer to this?
They will add VAT if they are registered for VAT - that's a question of their total turnover, not one single job

It they are not registered for VAT then they won't (well shouldn't) charge it

Why not ask?
What Dzug says is right. If he's registered for VAT, he'll charge 20% on any amount.
If he's not, he can't charge, but if he's bought materials, he would have included the VAT on the materials because he's just payed it to the Merchants.
Just ask 'inclusive .. or plus VAT?'
or she, the builder!
If they charge you VAT their VAT number should be on the bill.
Sorry, Bedbugs .............. not many female builders in Devon I'm afraid .............. more's the pity :o)

Thank you all for you your answers. It's just that the builder seems to be charging quite a lot, so will ask if he is VAT registered.
Thank you all again. Dido
