Laminating

I recently bought some laminates but they are not sticky - how do i go about laminating something in the middle? Do i need some kind of device?

Laminator pouches are designed to be used with a laminator which passes the pouch and its contents between heated rollers. These are sold by larger branches of Tesco, Sainsburys, etc (as well as discount stationers) for, typically, about �18.

I suppose you could try a 'DIY' approach. Lay the pouch, with its contents, on top of a firm smooth surface. Place a sheet of brown wrapping paper on top and then run a hot iron over everything. (NB: I've never tried this and I don't really recommend it but it might be worth a try if you don't want to fork out for a laminator. Just don't try it with an important document though!).

Yes you need a Laminator! It is like a hot press and you run the laminate thru after placing the sheet u want laminating between the pouch. You can laminate in A4 and A 3 but not all machines are big enough to do both. Alot of cheap A4 laminators are about for around �20. You should also be able to buy packs of smaller sized pouches to use for laminating any thing from business card size upwards, these u need either a good stationers for, or i think Tesco are doing a pack now too. Do not try to cut the laminated pouch if u have used an A4 pouch to mainate a smaller sheet of paper, as the laminate will eventually peel open.

Hi mjk; ask for a laminator for your birthday - it will change your life. In the meantime, I know for a fact that a steam iron will do the trick... practice with a couple of pouches till you can do it without wrinkling it.

Yes, an iron will work, but keep it quite cool; the working temperature of a laminator is only around 120 degrees C and you can easily wrinkle the plastic film by overheating.

Don't use an iron! it'll never give you good results. If your not going to be laminating loads of stuff then don't buy a laminator (It'll end up along side the George Foreman lean mean grilling machine in the loft!) You can get stuff laminated at places like Kall Kwick printers and the like

You can pick up "self laminating pouches" that are very similar to a normal laminating pouch except they are sticky....

much easier, no iron (with or without on-off switch) involved!
