Bridge Table cover

I want to make a cover for my old bridge table but baize seems very expensive. Has anyone any suggestions for an alternative (cheap) material I could make a loose cover out of? (I'm in UK)

Are there any snooker rooms near you? You might be able to get some of the old stuff when tables are re-covered.
