I have had a clematis for two years and no flowers so far! There has been lots of leafage this year, but I don't understand the lack of flowers. Anyone got any ideas please?

Clematis is notoriously fickle in my experience.
Too much Nitrogen can cause them to grow lost of green leaves with no flowers.

Don't know about too much nitrogen, just stuck it in the garden, but it does not get the sun. Is sun vital to obtain flowers?
Not necessarily, some are quite happy in the shade.
It might just be not mature enough yet to flower.
Thinking about it though, mine don't seem to have flowered that much this year, so may just be the conditions.
Actually, most clematis like quite a lot of sun. Pruning is important, but you need to know the variety since that is the indicator of when to prune, sprinkg or fall...
As clanad said you need to know the variety, they are a bit fickle about where you plant them... some like east facing some south etc. Do you know which variety you have paross?
