My lupins, which were growing beautifully, have drooped from the centre of the plant. The leaves are splayed out and lying on the soil. Have they died?
Thank you, cocci. I did water them yesterday with some soapy water, just in case there might be greenfly about. Its raining here now, so I'll go out and check them later.
One of my friends told me it's too early in the year for greenfly. There are loads of ladybirds around. They eat greenfly, don't they.
I do not know what is wrong with your lupins but not too early for greenfly. Yesterday I discovered that all my rose tips were infested with greenfly but, when I went to brush them off, found that the frost had done the job for me and they were all dead!
If you found greenfly about, Tilly, then you should be loving seeing ladybirds about, there's nothing more they love to eat than greenfly. Also they'll stop the greenfly from destroying your plants. ☻
Thanks everyone. The lupins are looking a bit better but not back to their former glory. There are greenfly about. My Dad told me to spray with soapy water. Is that truly effective? I don't like using chemicals in my garden but if there's a spray which will not harm the ladybirds, lacewings or birds, then I will get some. Any suggestions?
