I've just received three small blueberry bushes (offer from the Telegraph - young plants - top hat variety) - didn't really expect them so soon and am going away for five weeks next Sunday - can I put them in their new pots now, water them and leave them outside in a sheltered place? I live in the SE of England.
I don't know much about them but understand they need a certain amount of cold before they will fruit up.
Thank you

I think I'd live them in their pots in a sheltered area, yes - we are not out of the woods yet for cold weather (I too live in the SE).

thank you boxtops - don't really have much option other than to do that - they can't stay in the tiny, tiny pots they are in at the moment (although I suppose they are semi dormant now aren't they?)
We keep our blueberry plants in large pots, in ericaecous soil, outside all year long, had a lovely crop last year, so as long as they don't dry out then they should be fine, five weeks is not too long.

thanks jamesnan - was a bit worried as they are really quite small.
