Is there any easy way to identify a Acer. We have one, which is growing upwards probably about 10ft high now. Was planted Jan 07 probably about 6ft then, so grown approx 4ft in 4 years. I would like to prune the height but the "Boss " is saying no. Neither of us know the correct thing to do so if we could put a name to it, could look it up on the net and get expert advice on that particular type of Acer. Thanks for any help.

When you say acers do you mean "Japanese maples" (Acer palmatum)? Generally the pruning advice is "don't", but if you feel you must then the RHS has some good advice here:

I don't think it matters too much which cultivar you have.

Do you have any pictures you could post to help with ID? Specifically close up pics of the leaves.
