Beresford and Hicks of London

I have just purchased a sideboard from a charity place. It is a Beresford & Hicks of London. I am told it is made of Redwood ?????. It states on the inside of the cabinrt "DO NOT USE WAX OR AEROSOL POLISH" What do I do to keep it on good condition? Also I am not sure if the handles are brass or what how do I bring these to a shine (if that is what the original condition was). Many thanks for all your help.
