Does anyone know if it would be alright to plasterboard over emulsion painted ceiling tiles and would it be safe. Thank you

Hi Jenhor,

Yes you can plasterboard over ceiling tiles however the plasterboard will have to be screwed into the joists in the ceiling and not into the tiles.

Arent they horrid in fcase of ire tho? I would take them down, they melt in extreme heat

Yes but they'd be sandwiched between 2 layers of plasterboard - one each side - the original above and the new underneath. This would be perfectly satisfactory fire-wise.
Make sure you use long screws - 50mm (or even 60mm) long. You will have 13+10+13mm of 'sandwich' to get through before the screws hit the wood joists.
And it will deffo keep the heat in that room....
