What size mains cable for a hob?

My new cooker specifies that it needs 6mm cable as a minimum, however the new hob does not.

Do you know whether 2.5mm cable would be sufficient for a hob or whether this needs 6mm as well?

Thanks in advance.

Is it rated at more than 2700W? (look at the rating plate). If not then 2.5mm would be OK

It states 7.2kW, therefore 2.5 definately isn't going to be sufficient.

It needs to be at least a 4mm providing it is no more than about 2 metres from supply, if it is it will need 6mm, ideally if it is a double oven you have just bought they should be wired seperately back to the consumer unit, but you atre unlikely to ever use both on full power, so providing your cooker point has been wired in minimum 6mm cable all should be ok.
it sounds to me that you'd be better getting someone who knows what they are doing

it's actually against the law to install wiring if you are not qualified - so your insurance will be as void as your knowledge - and yes the fire service will be able to identify both the source - and the fact it's new.

the good scenario is you just burn down the house
the bad one is that you bridge cooker and hob - 7Kw is drawing enough current to almost guarantee a hell of a bang
6mm minimum and yes ray its good to have the diversity factor come into the equation.

Long time no speak how you doing on your semi retirement?
think you need a rcd as the regs have
changed ..
Take rays advice - he knows what he is talking about.
the lonely one stick to caring will you as you know nothing at all about the 16th edition let alone the 17th or even the 14th so please do not try to give advise on here that you know nothing about
Hi woodchopper, hope you are well, thanks for vote of confidence.good to see your name. :-)

Hiya knobby, how you doing? hope all is good, I am soon gonna be way out of touch with electrics eh. enjoying it knobby, no regrets, hope work keeps going ok for you, getting pretty bad with the building work up here, take care.
sir .nob how come when my new cooker
was fitted it had to have an RCB
as it's a reg of the part p ???
Hi the onlyone, it would only have to have an rcd if the cooker unit had a socket outlet on it, most electricians now do not put in cooker units as such, we connect to a 45amp switch, so no socket outlet, no need for rcd to protect the circuit.
Well the man from the local council
came round and passed it so we could
have the paperwork ...also our new shower
has a breaker in the box ...
