I have just bought a TFT TV and would like to put it on the wall . I have got a bracket but cannot find a hard batton of wood in the wall to drill it into. The whole wall seems to be just plaster board. Is there any other way I can put it up.?

you will have to find where the wall joists are to fix the baton too.
Some do hang them from the ceiling joists but make sure you hit the joist

thankyou both for your answers. My husband cannot find a wall joist in the bit of wall.tatis the problem.
Tap along the wall intil it doesn't sound hollow - should be a joist/baton behind it - then , making sure there are no pipes/cables close by get a drill with the smallest bit available and drill a series of holes and work out where the cenrtre of the baton is. The batons are usually horizontal or vertical - the holes can be filled up with polyfilla aferwards.
There are gadgets on the market - stud finders, available from DIY centres to assist but have never used them.

Hi woodchopper that seems to be the trouble, my husband cannot find a joist anywhere on this wall.He borrowed a meter and it kept bleeping but when my husband out a screwdriver in to see there was nothing. I know have a line of holes in my wall. But no joist/baton.
You need to buy a stud finder. I have found mine very usefull indeed since buying it from Screwfix. They are on offer at only 6.99 at the mo. They work like a mini metal detector and also find electric cables and hidden pipework.
I had the very same problem,do what i did,i tracked the cables down the stud wall (tv leads & scart) then cut a sheet of thick plywood 10" x 10" fed it into an 11" letterbox gap (make sure you get the messure spot on to hide the cut with the tv and use a stanley knife to get a nice cut and then tap with a hammer) i cut out for the 19" lcd tv,put gripfill (liquid nails) on the back of the plywood, fit the lcd bracket to the wall catching the wood with the screws and a year on with mine you could not take this baby down from my wall.
