i have a fluorescent light in my loft, just moved the loft opening to fit a ladder, and also moving switch to near the new opening.my question relates to wiring the switch as it is a double switch.does the red live go to 2 way or 1 way ? am i right in thinking 1 of the switches cuts off the power at that switch and the other switches the light on ?
please explain in laymans terms how wires are routed

2 way switches are used on the likes of staircases where there is a switch at the bottom and one at the top of the stairs.
For your switch - The live goes into the terminal marked Com (common )
and the other wire leading back to the light goes into L2

If you did put it into L1 the only thing that would happen is that the light would be on when the switch is in the off position and vice versa.
