why has my emersion heater stopped heating our water?

Hi zipit, It will probably be either the element or the thermostat,that has gone,


the first thing to check though is just inside the top of immersion heater,make sure power is off,take off cap and make sure it isn't just a burnt wire,if all is ok there and the fuse or mcb hasn't tripped it is probably the stat,these are easy to replace,


if the immersion is in the top of the tank the stat is likely to be an 18 inch rod stat,if it is the bottom more than likely a 7 inch, if you replace this make sure you set it at no more than 65 degrees C,


if it isn't the stat you will need an electrician or plumber,again if immersion is in the top it is quite a quick job,if it is at the bottom of cylinder,the whole thing needs draining,this can be a slow job so will cost more to do, hope this helps you,good luck, Ray
