Hi, just putting up a new ceiling light but the wires coming out of the ceiling are a little too short. I need to increase them to fit into the light. What's the best way. Previously I've used the red crimp connectors and wonder if these are secure.

Thx

I would use one of the small 'chocolate block' connectors.
If you're referring to the cable from the ceiling rose to a light suspended from it, don't be mean, replace it with a new bit of the right length.
Since you often have as many as three twin & earth cables to a ceiling rose, it's not always practicable to replace all of them.
Nothing wrong with little "chocblock" connectors if they're well taped up. If you want something a little more "upmarket", then connect the existing cables into a junction box. Connect the light fitting into it as well, and push the JB up into the roof space.
I assume the light fitting is one that does away with the ceiling rose?
personally I would use a junction box in the ceiling like builder says but you could use wago push connectors there better and quicker than block connectors
