The East End and the West End meet in the middle (the City of London) and it extends out as far as the borders between London and Kent/Essex, beyond which it is no longer in London. There is no definite boundary for the north and south.

i think we're getting confused between east london and the east end of london,i always thought the east end was a small part of east london like the west end is a small part of west london

I think of the core of the East End as being Tower Hamlets and Newham, and perhaps Barking and Dagenham as well. Streching outwards would include Ilford, Greenwich, Bexley, Lewisham, Hackney, Islington, Waltham Forest etc.

Politically, the East End has had concentrations of fascism (a BNP councillor in the Isle of Dogs in 1993), communism (a Communist MP in Stepney in 1945), anti-fascism (the Battle of Cable Strret 1936), and high populations of immigrants / Jews/ Asians at different times.

I suppose the proper answer is that there is no definite boundary, it's just a cultural / traditional thing.

I can't imagine that the East End would include areas that were formerly in the County of Essex. (Ilford, Romford, Dagenham etc.)
