Out of all the rock deaths that have occurred over the years, this is one of the saddest. Rhoads died in a flying accident in 1982 whilst on tour with Ozzy Osbournes band. Rhoads was trying to put his own unique stamp in the rock world. His playing was a mix of classical acoustic and heavy riffs...sometimes in the same song.

A quiet unassuming man, he was totally dedicated to his instrument. Sometimes turning up for gigs hours ahead of schedule just to practise. An example for any young up and coming musician.

It was said that Rhoads was going to go back to study classical in more detail and leave rock music altogether.

I had never heard of him.

Seems the guy flying the plane was a bit of a idiot. They call it an "accident" but this was not an accident but stupidity by the pilot.

I always favoured him over Zak Wylde as Ozzys guitarist. Stevie Ray Vaughan also died in a helicopter crash around the same time (I think).

Zakk was a good replacement and I got to see him on his first tour.
Time does fly - I had no idea it was so long ago!

RR was a consumate musician, and apparently a nice guy, and sadly missed by people who appreciate either, or indeed, both.
