Do you mean hallmark? Certainly with silver, it usually denotes that it's origin of assay was Birmingham. (This I picked up from the plethora of antiques programmes on television which I detest - notwithstanding the fact I watch little television anyway !)
Try sticking @ hallmark gold anchor' into Google. I just tried that and came up with quite a few results. (Though couldn't be bothered to read any of them).
