not really. But that doesn't mean it can't be done. In fact the USA very nearly did it this time, but then they lost their focus and went off to invade Iraq as well, and now they are overstretched in both countries.

THe PErsian empire under Darius held most of Afghanistan, as did Alexander, but it was never really pacified under either's rule. I don't think the aim of the current mission is to "beat" afghanistan. Only to remove the Taliban and disrupt Al Qaeda who they were sheltering. Afghanistan has little worth taking in commodity terms. The Taleban do not necessarily represent the will of the Afghan people as a whole. Without support from the Pakistani ISI they wouldn't have been able to get as far as they did. Remember even the Taliban never took the whole country.

to me it just seems a pity that the 3 super powers of the last century have all lost men and prestige trying to pacify a country that doesn't want any help and with no chance that they will stop the local trebels untill the drug money is halted
in my humble opinion the only way to stop the power is to destroy the money supplys so stop killing by bombs (the vast majority fall on innocents) and instead napalm the poppy fields.
the USA is backing a complete defeat of the people with the complicit support of the UK but as history tells us this will not happen
I still say get the ground troops out except for the support crews and then kill the drug supply

hello everybody.... I read all answers but as I study world history Bhai Hari Singh Nalwa was the only person from Punjab, India who ruled over Afghanistan. Moreover, Alexander fought in Afghanistan to take over but he got lost.
