well i am doing this history report and i need to write the significance, like what is so cool about it? what was did people think after, and how did it help the united states? Sorry if this is not enough information...
It really depends who you need it to be significant to for your report. The USA, the UK, other countries or the World?

1. It affected the world economy (industrial and material producing nations)
2. It lasted for about a decade
3. Crop prices doubled and agricultural industries were deeply affected (particularly Australia)
4. Mining and logging industries suffered a lack of demand and thus a mass of unemployment with few job alternatives or prospects
5. It caused global political upheaval and weakened democracy (hence the rise of Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini)
6. It resulted in global poverty and bordered on starvation

If you need to focus on a particular country or issue, then perhaps we could help further.
Can I recommend a book on this subject ?

A brilliant work of massive erudition is:
'The Dark Valley' by Piers Brandon
pub. Jonathan Cape, Lond. 2000
ISBN 0-224-06038-4

Superb +++
