Greenman story?

'ello! is any one able to tell me more about this Greenman myth or story or whatever it is?!?! someone bought me a carving of the greenman and said there was some story behind it and told me to hang it up in my house?!?!

I read a book about a small green carving of a little green chinese man with an emerald in his head. It was called 'Little Green man' (funnily enough) and it was by Simon Armitage. It was fiction and probably won't be much use to you in finding your answer, but it was worth a read.
