If someone tried to argue in court that he got away with it, why can't I? It would be rejected.
Why are some sections of the press saying his actions have driven a coach and horses through lockdown regulations?

Precedents are set in court. Each case of transgression that a police officer deals with will be judged on its own merits and DC's behaviour should not be a factor in that judgement.

If he remains in his position then he has.People will think if he can then we can.
and in the same circs with the same needs then they could.
He's clearly not bothered what he's done, or what people think about it. There have been many, many comments and observations about DC, which may have been totally accurate or may have been wide of the mark. Either way he doesn't care and he's just going to carry on. That's fine. Everyone else can do the same then.
NJ, you are talking about a legal precedent. The OP is talking about a common meaning of the word.
precedent
noun
/ˈprɛsɪd(ə)nt/
an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.
//NJ, you are talking about a legal precedent.//

Yes I am.

If I am stopped by a police officer for allegedly breaking lockdown rules I would not expect to cite what Cummings did as an excuse for my transgression and I would not expect the officer to consider it either.
Oh, I don't know, NJ. If you had a 4 year old son who is on the 'spectrum' in the car with you...…………………….
Everone has different opinions about Cummings, should he stay or should he go. IMO, he should stay. I think he will be a very deciding factor at the next General Election.
In the same circumstances, yes. Otherwise no.
We have a new excuse now * doing a Cummings *
It's the jolly to Barnard Castle that really takes the biscuit in view of the reason he gave i.e. going for a test drive to see if he was fit to drive. Isn't that just as bad as having a few drinks and then getting in the car and driving off to decide if you're "fit to drive"?

Why not use

doing a Kinnock
or
doing a Tahir Ali
Such a tall story, but it would appear he expected the * public* to accept his tale. Obviously Boris is taken in by him, or assisted him in the concoction of said tale .
Roy. Because we are discussing Cummings. By all means start a thread on kinnock, I’m sure it will be a record breaker
Don't you think it odd we are discussing Cummings on thousands of thread and yet there is not one thread on Kinnock or Ali?

Why no Answerbank outrage about the actions of those two...not to mention the SNP cover-up
^That question warrants a thread of its own, roy. Not sure it would generate much traffic though.
//I think he will be a very deciding factor at the next General Election.//

Will you be voting in the next one Glub?
What SNP cover-up?
old one
my defence is that someone else was doing the same thing
think if you tried that for mairder (sorry just seen a liverpule tv prog), think or not - the judges will chuck it out

// Why are some sections of the press saying his actions have driven a coach and horses through lockdown regulations?//
because the hacks and journos dont know the law (*)
they do meedja at uni

they dont add either - that was why their reporting on modelling was so awful. - and why I twit them with "and fwee is a very large numba"

even the minister yesterday was getting his knickers in a terrible knot over police fines - er its something judges do innit?

(*) Trump was trying to exclude muslims and a bit of fluff said "the president ( the most powerful man on earth) can exclude whom he likes." In fact I had fun pointing out that the common law guaranteed entry to citizens since 1215. Yeah that one.

oh and whilst I am at it - twice a beeb hack referred to Hong Kong was autonomous. I told them it wasnt - and to look it up. It is a special economic area and not a special autonomous area like mongolia which everyone thinks it is.
whether or not FatPang ( Lord Patten that is!) allowed people to think he had negotiated autonomy when he hadnt because it was politically wise for him to do so is neither here or there
