I have a sister, who's 31 & doesn't know anything about history! Whilst I can lend her some books, I think she'd prefer to look it up on the net. Does anyone know of a really good (but not too taxing on the brain) website that lists the Kings, Queens & the basic history of the England (timelines etc)? I don't want to patronise her by making it too childish though!

Good one - thanks!

This is also quite informative:

monarchy

Sounds like a good idea for a Christmas present !

Maybe a book or DVD about english history.

One other option is membership of English Heritage. They own thousands of old buildings (castles, houses etc).

Nothing like visting old houses or castles to bring history to life. They are all free if you are in the English Heritage.

During the summer they also do a lot of "activity days" where they have people dressed in period costume and doing various activities (archery, cookery etc).

Every year they have a Festival of History where they have thousands of poeple in costume from all periods of history. It is an amazing day out. Read more about it here, even pictures of previous events.
