I have been to all the usual chains, including House of Fraser type shops, I dont want a frumpy bolero and dress, most dresses are too long and sleeveless, I want a trendy short unusual dress, possibly lacy three quarter sleeves, I know its a lot to ask, are there any reasonably priced shops independent in London or Surrey? I am only going to wear it once! Thinking a bright colour or print so I can match with accessories. Thanks all.

Something like this? I know it's not an independent shop but it is very nice

Joe Browns has funky stuff, not sure I'd consider it MOTB though. Ted Baker is good for patterns. Have you looked at Boden?
My wife loves Joe Browns
I agree with hc, here are more Gina Bacconi dresses.

I like hc's suggestion. I bought a lovely knee length lacy sleeved dress from Esprit a couple of years ago. You could try Monsoon as well. I'll be interested in the replies as I'll be MOTG next year.
It might only be worn for one day but the photos of you wearing it will be on FaceBook for your great great great grandchildren to see :D
I love Joe Browns too, have 2 or 3 of their dresses but is it a bit bohemian for a wedding although they do have some more classic styles.
You usually find this brand in independent shops http://www.chichiclothing.com/dresses/.

My daughter has one of their dresses and it's very well made for the price.

Yes Prudie, I looked at Phase Eight, mostly sleevelesss though and too long, I need around 34inch long as I am small.... Any more shops around like ChiChi or Asos?? Any little reasonably priced independent boutiques anywhere? ......
Kaleidoscope is well worth a look. Some really nice clothes on there at the moment. Enjoy your day.
Just a word about the colour, do you know what the bridesmaids are wearing? I went to a wedding some years ago and the m-o-t-b wore a very bright colour which clashed terribly with the bridesmaids....so much so that the photographer kept moving her. I wasn't sure why until I saw the photos.
