Can anyone help? Where can my husband apply for an unclaimed WW I medal, (his grandfathers) his mum as asked him to apply. We do have some details of his regiment, number, etc. Thanks

Obtaining unclaimed Medals, not sure how up to date this is.
Every serving military personnel were awarded medals, and you may still be able to get unclaimed medals if you are a close relative. The new address to write to is:-

Officer in Charge
The Army Medal Office
Building 250
RAF Innsworth
Innsworth
Gloucester
GL3 1HW

You will need the written consent of the next of kin to receive the medals, and proof of your relation to the person. They may also ask for the death certificate, which you can obtain from the refister office in the district the persom died if your family does not have a copy

I recently got my grandfather's medals for my mother. He died on 1945 from injuries inflicted in WW1. He served in the Canadian Army as he worked on the atlantic liners. The Canadians were very helpful and after sending $10 they sent a new set of medals which now have pride of place above the fireplace next to my father's medals from WW2. Irt meant so much to my mother to see her father's medals.

The War Office says on their site that "Under no circumstances" will they issue war medals prior to WW2.

I tried to do the same for my GGGrandad, but no luck at all.
