What's the name of the game?

A few years ago i used to play a game on my comptuer. you had a little village that was yours and you were surrounded by other villages. you had men who looked after things like making food and building houses. you had to procted your property otherwise other men could come and distroy what you had. as you got better your village would inprove by turning from say wood to stone etc. does anyone know what this game was called?
