On the original versions back in the 90s it was the order of the rainbow.
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue then Purple.

Leighton, you can play Rainbow Islands by getting hold of WinUAE (an Amiga emulator), the KickStart 1.3 ROM (downloadable from various places if you Google for it) and the Rainbow Islands ADF from somewhere.
