Why can't I get Sims3 to load on my new PC?

We've just bought a brand new PC and want to play The Sims 3. The game will load on to the machine but won't load to play.
The PC is a Zoostorm 8GB, 1 TB running Windows 7. There are no other game programs, or large programs loaded on it yet.
So far we have loaded The Sims and a printer program and that is all. It is straight out of the box.
When attempting to play the Sims, we get a window flash up for half a second, too quick to even read what it says. We've tried troubleshooting and checking the drivers. All to no avail.
Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
