It is a highly saturated fat, and so implicated in heart disease etc. etc. Should probably be avoided in excess. However I dont think the odd jam roly poly will carry you off.

What about vegetarian suet?
Maybe better maybe worse. Vegetable suet tends to be made from oils that have been hydrogenated to make them solid. This also turns them into saturated fats, which are bad, on the whole. The amount of saturated fat in each brand will vary, however , depending on which oils they use to start with, so if you check the side of the packet it may help you to pick the best. All suet is very calorific, though.
