I'm looking at a dress with a fitted bodice and a fullish skirt that will come to just below the knee.

Could I wear it with a swing jacket that falls just beyond my waist or are swing jackets better suited to shift dresses?

I don't want to look like a cube!

I think a swing jacket will make you look round because it will fall where the skirt starts. Maybe a bolero type jacket would be better.
I agree with 237. I think a swing jacket needs the contrast of a more fitted/straight line dress. I'd definitely look in the bolero category.

Agree with both - danger of looking like a lampshade.

Try to avoid the cheap handbags though!

Oops, almost forgot

Oh be quiet the lot of you!!!

I know I asked but you are telling me what I already know :-(

I've found a dress I like (one of very few) and I was hoping in vain I could get away with wearing a jacket I already have.

Back to the drawing board........

Thanks all :-)
Baldric - Sold Out I'm afraid -the 'News' boys have bought them all up for their little spats they have ;-)
You could wear one of those short cardigans (if you have one) instead of shelling out for a bolero jacket
Sorry Eccles. It's a drag being right isn't it ;)
Do you absolutely have to have a jacket? What about a pretty pashmina or the like.

Hurrumph.
A nice lacy cardigan with 3/4 sleeves that sits on the waist -I wore a swing dress and cream lacy cardigan for a wedding and it looked nice. I got mine from Bon Marche for £ 19.99 I think.

I might be able to get away without a jacket but it's for a function in October and who knows what the weather will be doing?
3/4 swing jacket looks best with long straight skirt or trousers imo
Can you get out of going (would be my choice).

It would be my first choice too Sherrard, hence my lack of interest in lashing cash on an outfit, sadly it's not an option.

I'll continue to scour the web before hitting the shops......I hate shopping :-(
You could always chuck a kagool on over your cardi if it rains....

Thanks Eth, I'll sleep on that suggestion.......
