I have been poring over rcipe boks and recipes on-line and I can't decide on a starter. We can't have fish or shell-fish unfortunately. I'd love someone to give me a lovel starter recipe that they have already tried and tested. I also want to avoid cheese as there will be cheese in the main course, and of course we'll have cheese board later too. Thank you for any suggestions.

What are you having for the main course?

Fillet steaks stuffed with goats cheese with candied shallots. It's a hairy bikers recipe!
E'Scargot! lovey before a steak :-)
I'd go for something quite light then.

I recently had a lovely starter at a wedding....which I then done at home. It was just Parma ham, baked fennel, roasted peppers and rocket. With a balsamic reduction. I also added some roasted cherry toms and mozerella. It's really yummy.
Mushrooms stuffed with pate. Cook for about 15 minutes .serve with a small salad. Contrary to Shirley Conran life is not too short to stuff a mushroom and they are delicious.
Definitely something light. Gazpacho if you like that sort of thing?

Ratter there's a couple in the group who wouldn't like them. My OH for one!

Ummm - that sounds lovely....and I can use my own cherry tomatoes! A possibilty there.

Thanks both.

or how about this vegetable terrine - we've done them, and they look great.

Served cold on a bit of salad, can be made in advance. We put a layer of Parma ham on the outside. Avoid mushrooms - the water comes out, and spoils the slices.
and we use far less potato!
