I have been putting £1 a day in a pot towards the expense of Christmas and have now got about £240, I was very proud of this till I mentioned this to my friend, I've done better than that, she said, and showed me a wad of £20 notes hidden away in her wardrobe. I'm just interested to know how other people save up.

My nan once pulled out a biscuit tin from the pantry and she had bundles and bundles of (old) £50 notes in there. There must have been thousands of pounds. I was only very young at the time and I was quite astonished at what I saw.

Personally I just leave money in the bank. Safer there.
I dont work so christmas is cancelled this year
In addition to regular savings we usually put all change/coins into a tub and pay into a separate account for holiday money, it mounts up fairly quickly.
Save what? There's nothing left at the end of the month. I usually panic come mid October and max out the credit card (again) ;(
I think you are doing well towards Christmas , don't buy you friend anything -- she has more than enough cash to buy her own.Suggest you buy a supermarket savings card and you may get up to 3 quid extra.
Hello? Santa brings everything.
I also put money on those store cards for Chrimbo, truth be told I'm quite organised.,
I put everthing under a pound left in my purse at the end of the day in a whisky bottle.have £500 to date and never missed it.will all go to loud mouth soup tokens at xmas no doubt
I always hope that the happy pixies will turn up with some dosh (they are usually quite reliable). However, regardless of my money situation I never start shopping months in advance and I think I am doing really well if I have bought something by the second week of December.

I also put 1p,2p 5p 20p in a 2 litre (empty coke bottle with top cut off) don't know how much is in there yet, but it is bl**dy heavy.
We save our small change. My elderly neighbour a few years back had loads and loads of rolls of cash, stuffed behind the pedestal in her bathroom washbasin. I can't understand people keeping money in wardrobes these days, why not pop it into as ISA at the building society? - at least you get a bit of tax-free interest on your savings, however small it is.
I invest my money in a thing called PAYE ...they take a chunk out of my salary every month ...some at 40% ...
I expect a large cheque from them this Xmas ...in fact still waiting for the cheques for the last 30 years ...guess they are in the post ...

Also save change in a bottle ...
Yes it does mount up quickyl ...try and save at least £3 a day ...don't miss it that way
my bank does it for me. They round up any visa transaction to the nearest pound and put the difference in savings
I start buying christmas presents through the year that way by the time december is here i can spend that bit more on special bits & the food
When my Grand Mother died , we had to do a top to bottom house search for money.
We gave away the sofa and chairs to a charity and prior I found an old purse ..yes down back of sofa ...with £240 in it ....then all the typical places about the house ...she even kept money in a bag in the freezer ! Worked out at near on £2K ...I wanted to pull up the floor boards lol

Reminds me of an Aunt ...well Grand Aunt
She was waiting for a bus in the East end of London area and saw a £1 blowing down the road ...picked it up and then found some more notes ..she walked along road and started to pick up notes ..another chap did the same ...
She collected a small bundle.
I asked if she knew where the had come from and she said they were knocking down a building near the bus stop ....I think she was fibbing and had help up the local post office on pension day ....
Oh bednobs which bank is that?
No Christmas this year,as I will be alone for the first time ever. Hopefully it will pass quickly.
In the past I put all my change away...there is nothing left at the end of the month anymore.... ;-(
I know the feeling, Pasta. If things don't pick up, I'll be playing my ukelele on Church Street with all the other buskers.
Last year I was walking on Woolacombe Beach in Devon ...
The tide was going out and it was a windy day ...the sand was wet and like a mirror reflecting the sunlight ...anyway as I was walking you could see small pebbles in the wet sand ...and I could see a bit of paper ...me thinks ...clean beach for 3 miles and someone chucks a bit of paper on beach ...as I got closer ...it was a £5 note ...picked it up ..looked about and not a person in sight ...the note was not even wet ...so must have just landed ..
My only guess was that someone had puled it out of pocket with car keys ....car park at top of sand cliffs ....
Sure things will pick up soon for you people ....
With luck the jobs market will recover ...
Thinks ..that could so easily be me ...we had a round of layoffs last year
