I know it sounds odd,but I know someone in New Zealand who loves sprouts and the lack of them made Christmas not seem like Christmas.I was wondering if anyone knew of any way of preserving them and sending them to him?
I think it can be difficult to send anything that could carry bugs, but preserving sprouts seems like a challenge anyway!
Cheers for any hints

ayabrea - I don't think there is a way, freezing them is all I can think of. New Zealand like Australia are incredibly strict on food, fruit and veg at import. Can't you friend buy them in the shops out there or online?
I would've thought someone would be growing them there they have a similar climate to us. Perahps contact NZ High Commission and see if you're allowed to post a sealed [ie commercially produced] packet of seeds for them to grow their own? Sorry, not much help.
i don't know if it would work but what about vacuum packing them?

You can buy fresh and frozen brussel sprouts, and seeds to grow your own, in New Zealand.

Plenty of Sprouts to be had in NZ !!
should be able to buy them pretty much anywhere in nz. i know that keeping them on a stalk keeps them fresher for longer, but as already mentioned, sprouts sent via the post are likely to fall foul of import standards. make sure thay serve them with bread sauce!!! x
