Many adverts ( the current Halifax is a good example) have strange, urban locations that don't quite look like the UK, but they are trying to be. Are they filmed in foreign cities, then altered? If so, where in the world are they filmed?

lol marble ;o)
Most adverts are filmed on locations all over the world.

The Halifax ads were filmed in and around Auckland - New Zealand.

Some are make in studios but I expect it is all down to the budget and costs involved.

I would have thought ALL adverts were filmed in locations all over the world, unless they took a camera into space.
so another-view, they were filmed on location!
Not on locations around the world if it was filmed in space.
nit picking Karen............you've lost this one...............
Ok then, ALL adverts are filmed on location.
NO, not ALL adverts are filmed on location. You are confusing what "on location" means in the film world. In this instance "on location" refers to something being filmed in the "actual" place it represents. For example, when they filmed the outdoor scenes for The Mummy, they filmed "on location" at The Great Pyramid Of Cheops, however, when they filmed the interior scenes of The Great Pyramid Of Cheops, they filmed in a studio mock up of the interior. These are known as studio scenes as opposed to being shot "on location".
