Hello foodies,
We recently had some "Mexican Chicken" from our local Chinese buffet place.
It was strips of chicken which had been marinated in a red spicy sauce which the waitress said was called Moi Pla (sp?) and I could buy it at the local Chinese Supermarket; Went there today and it's closed down. Has anyone any idea what it's actually called, apparently it's a red sauce in a bottle. Not chilli dipping sauce, or fajita stuff either.
Best Regards

Hello Mamyalynne,
I know of Nam Pla, and no it's not that either.
I have a very strong suspicion I was given the wrong information and I don't think it's a wet marinade at all - the chicken isn't sticky or moist enough in my opinion for it to be a marinade.
I think it's a dry seasoning, possibly chilli powder or cayenne pepper, garlic powder and white pepper.
I'm going to experiment with these ingredients and see where I get to. It's not piri piri as it's not bitty enough for that unless it's been very finely ground down.
Thank you again for taking the trouble to reply,
Jaquelyn
