I love a mashed potato sandwich ...crikey that brings back memories ..when I worked in the pub me and the guvnor used to have doorsteps with loads of butter ,mash with spring onions chopped in with plenty of black pepper and that's before we opened the doors !!
Fried spuds ..you know ..what my mum used to call flat chips (cold cooked new spuds sliced and fried up ) are nice too in a butty ...dripping with butter ....Mmmm.......
However, much to the chagrin of the middle classes, there is one time only I enjoy processed cheese. And that is in fish finger and tomato sauce sandwiches. A few slices of plastic, e-number enriched fromage seems so right in the above scenario.
When I used to work in a bakers shop ..we had a customer who used to come in and ask for a pickle sandwich or roll ..whatever was going ....anyway ...she only wanted the sauce bit of the Branston !
We used to have to fish the crunchy bits out ....I ask you :))
If we saw her coming we used to make a mad dash for the bakehouse ...you might guess who got trampled in the rush and was left to serve her ...trying to keep a straight face .....
Years ago when I worked in London me and some of the other guys had an ongoing challenge to see who could buy and eat the most disgusting sandwiches. It was so long ago, I can't really remember any of them, but we did have some real freaky concoctions.
HOWEVER, what this reminded me of was something else that sounds like a bad mix but is actually extremely tasty when having a barbecue - bacon wrapped round a banana. Sounds very weird but trust me, it is so nice!
Very true dear ..but they hadn't invented that at the time !
That squeezy pickle is sloppy beyond compare !
I miss Panyan Pickle ....that was the biz .
hi pixi ....a few yrs back I asked a Q on here about junk food & someone said they ate pot noodle butties....hahaha
I love brown sauce..... fried potatoes....warm sliced new poatoes with or without cheese....and I confess to removing the lumps from branston....well, I can't do pickles anymore, so I just have the taste
I had a flat egg (omelette) sandwich for my tea :o)
I love fried onion sandwiches and when I was younger I made golden syrup sandwiches which soaks into the bread and makes it crispy. Couldn't eat them now though, way too sweet.
that's spooky, for the first time in about 2 yrs I reached out to pick up a tin of g syrup in the shop & changed my mind...I wish I'd bought it now :o(
