Sodium Benzoate

As always I am keen to educate myself without being too hysterical, I was actually reading about tiger prawns when I stumbled on an article about Sodium Benzoate, I know there were a few stories floating around last year, but the hysteria seemed to die out like most things, has anyone read the stories regarding this additive, what's the deal? I'm guessing it refers to people to drink fizzy drinks in excess, I don't know, the way things are going we won't be eating anything, drinking bottled water now seems to be a waste of time if we are to believe last nights Panorama.
