Should obese people be allowed to travel on holiday abroad? The extra fuel required to transport them, is contributing more, to the destruction of the ozone layer. On arrival, they can be found every morning, tucking into their greasy fry-ups, with the plastic chairs groaning under their weight. I would suggest that those, who cannot meet Department of Health guidelines, on height and weight equivalents, should have their passports confiscated. They would of course, be allowed to holiday at home, but with certain restrictions applied, for example, length of journey and type of transport used. These measures are to help the environment, and may even encourage people, to eat a little less.

OH! how I agree with you, you should of course add that if they holiday in this country, they should not be allowed to drive - what a menace they are. I know several who cannot go abroad anyway - they are too obese to fit in any aeroplane seat.

Not forgetting the extra weight that planes have to carry, making the engines work harder and thus creating more exhaust fumes :-)
America would come to a standstill then. Most Yanks are very obese, and our Americans cousins use planes the way we catch a bus

If they're obese they'd need larger seats, thus paying more for them thus more than covering their share of the plane's fuel.

And I fail to see what they eat for breakfast (or indeed any meal) has anything to do with you!

B00, wide bodied aircraft, (no pun intended) would have to have, about half of their seats removed, to accommodate these people, thus defeating the object of the whole exercise.
I don't see, why they can't have muesli for breakfast, like everyone else.
Believe me Cambus, if they have to take out seats and put bigger ones in, they will charge the customer more. No airline will suffer any loss of their billion pound profit due to folk eating too many pork pies!

Muesili? You're kidding right? I'd rather eat toenail clippings.
I dont actually agree with you .. although some people are fat and lazy they need to be aware of the dangers of that.. but a lot of people gain wait due to medical conditions so we shouldnt be quick to judge and say things like this.
What about people who would rather go on foriegn holidays with people they actually liked regardless of their size, rather than be forced to share a plane with sanctimonius gits who see to think that merely because they are fortunate enough to be slim, all other slim people must share their their notions of body fascism?
Well sweetheart, you know I've lost quite a lot of weight for the wedding already but I'm still not entirely sure I'll be able to squeeze in to an economy seat on Ryan Air... Still, there's always butlings in bogna right?

On the plus side... the clingy white number I'm wearing on the day really shows off all my curves... In fact all five rolls on my belly.

Tell you still love me!
You may have noticed that when you travel by plane, they weigh your luggage, and not yourself. This is because passeger the weight is worked out as an average over the entire passenger manifest. The fuel allowance is is over-generous any, so if someone is a few stones over the average, it will not make the slightest difference to the planes efficiency.

In fact, in terms of fuel efficency and carbon footprints, it is far worse to have a few empty seats on a plan than to have the occasional fatty.

I'm sure we can lift the armrest to fit you in.
I don't fancy paying for three seats.
at the end of the day, obese people have a choice. okay, some obese people maybe do have a medical problem (although i have to admit im relativley skeptial of this, as i cant help thinking most use it as some kind of excuss!), but whats the point of freedom, if you cant choose to be fat, thin, slim, whatever. classic example. fatman from youtube, posts videos of himself eating stupid amounts of food, even though he does have diabeties (and seemingly learning difficulties due to his voice!), but as he points out himself, its life, his body, who can stop him? and really, why should they?

on the other hand...if obese people didnt travel on holiday, and had their passports revolked, wow, imagine the public reaction! would make a cool mockumentory! it might even have a positive effect in the long term, people would lose weight for the right to go on holiday!

as for helping the environment, im VERY skeptical of this green house effect...and personally believe oil will destroy us (haha! obviously not literally!) before anything seriously dangerous happens to the earth itself.
Some people do have a medical condition that leaves them being big......most, however, do not: they are big because they eat too much and exercise too little. Fact.

As far as planes are concerned, have any of you ever had the misfortune to be sat next to a fat person? I have, in cattle class. Trust me on this one, It. Is. Not. Nice.

In the arguments about smokers and fat people on this site people are always quick to point out that fat people don't affect other people......well this is one situation where they bloody well do.

Their bulk spills over into your space, making it virtually impossible to read, eat, drink, sleep or move.

Further, I would say their obesity makes them a safety hazard, so again their weight is affecting others.

So yes, I think there is a perfectly valid argument that very overweight people should, at the very least, be made to pay for two seats.

If nothing else, hopefully it will embarass them into shedding some of their unsightly bulk.
I have an issue with leg room in that my legs are a bit longer than the statutory minimum allowance for leg room on planes. Often I need to sit sideways and thus may hinder the aisle or your personal space. Would I be banned from flying as well, or should I just enquire about getting a compulsory epiphysiodesis in both legs so that I conform to the obligatory but highly acceptable joe average?
I have the same problem with my legs - there is nothing I can do about that: there is something that fat people can do.

Lose weight.
How about a compromise?

We could start a plane company just for fat people and people who smoke.

We could fuel it using methane and CO2.

I'm sure the idea has merit.
Get your arse to Florida then complain about the largies in the uk. 20 stone is average there!!
the uk is no different , i think that everyone has there hang up things ,my one moan is sat next to a fat person on a flight (sorry )
My moan is being stuck between two LARGE people on a flight!
