It was Nestle and if you google for texan bar there seems to be quite a lot of people who would like to see them return.
Question Author
yeah, whenever they're mentioned in conversation, EVERYONE who remembers them wants them to make a comeback. Which begs the question.....why on earth did they stop making them in the first place?? I may well write to Nestle to enquire as to the likelihood of a return of the Texan!!
"Texan bar, powerful bar. takes time a-chewin' " Not sure whether I would risk my fillings if they did bring it back. I definitely wouldn't if they made it with hydrogenated vegetable fat !
Question Author
did they also use...."A man's gotta chew, what a man's gotta chew" or am I confusing Texans ads with something else?? I'd def. eat them again, regardless of hydrgenated veggie fat, all things in moderation, a little of what you fancy etc etc.....(and other over used sayings)
jills, you are correct. 'Just take a bite and chew, ree-al slow'. The ad I remember is the hero surrounded by Indians who grant him a last request. He chooses a Texan bar and starts eating it in the heat of the day - by the time he's finished, all the Indians are asleep and he gets away.

Oooooh - what a good memory you have 5x5, I do remember that ad!! Ahhhh, a wave of nostalgia.........
Hang on. Was'nt "a man's gotta chew what a man's gotta chew" from a Toffo's ad?
I feel so ashamed - spiff is the man, I am nothing. It was indeed Toffo (nts: Do homework first). But Texan "Sure is a mighty chew".
"Bite through the chocolate and chew real slow".
I remeber them but I think your getting them mixed up with a nice chocolate bar. Now Banjo. That was a chocolate bar.

Texan bar slogan was "Sure is a mighty chew"
Texan bar slogan was "Sure is a mighty chew"

Nestle stopped making them in 1985. They said it was due to the miners strike, in so much that the factory couldn't be accessed due to picket lines. Nestle e mailed me only today to say it was unlikely they would make them ever again...I wonder where Sky One got them for for their TV Show, The 1970's Office...??
