I am off for a curry.

as you may know I love my food but rarely attend curry houses and admittedly do not know much about Asian food. I usually go for a mutton based bhuna, boiled rice and a nan bread with more mutton sliced in the middle.

Any ideas to something new?

Not too hot but not too mild. Something with some punch but not a Tyson knock out, if you know what I mean.

Thank you.

Korma?
or,
Butter chicken is supposed to be good and mild too.

Question Author
I have had a korma, something stronger.
Have a rogan josh, its tomatoey spicy but not hot.
Curry is something I know a lot about. Personally I think an ex-army man should not wuss about with kormas but should dig deep and go for a vindaloo, or a madras if you are too frightened. As a side dish, try bombay potato phall hot, and vegetable rice. For drinkies, only Bangla will do.

Kormas are for ********.

Just ask for any curry on the menu and add ''make it extra spicy''. :)

Question Author
I like the sound of a rogan, but please do not call me josh. It's not my name.
Question Author
Not a lager man really. Red wine will suffice.
What's a bangla, by the way?
well if you like the sound of that but do actually want something with a slightly less than madras kick then a jalfrezi is your dish.
Minor correction to fiest, the wording is: 'Make it so that I can barely breathe and will worry about being able to cycle home 6 miles without encountering an emergency situation on the common'
got to agree, lamb rogan josh. mmmmmmmm i will need 2 go get one now
Bangla is beer, fantastic beer, great big bottles.

Naga King Prawn phall, bombay aloo phall hot, vegetable rice, 4 or 5 banglas, there is a perfect curry, don't attempt anything important or organised for the rest of the day.
Chicken Dopiaza.. YUM
Have a Jalfrezi and wash it down with an Elephant or Tiger beer , think Elephant is the better of the two , so have a try and lets us all know how you if you enjoyed it .
Good advice there whiffey, I also sense a lot of Abers will be back home promptly after curry night.

I don't think jalfrezi is less ballistic than a madras. The thing about a jalfrezi is that it has hot pockets. Most of it is girly stuff until you come across a green chilli. The sign of a true man is that he will eat that chilli and get home in sanitary safety.
i love a lamb karahi. it's served in a swizzling iron skillet.

here's the description from my local curry house

' medium hot - these dishes are delicatly spiced and cooked with tomatoes, onion, red and green peppers and garnished with fresh corriander.'

my mouth is watering at the thought.

hope you enjoy you're meal.
I agree with happyjo, dupiaza is one of my favourite's too.
Rogan josh, jalfrezi and madras are good standard curries too.
Dont limit yourself to things with a specific heat range though or you'll miss some of the best curries! Also making it too hot will impare your sense of taste (which would only be advisable if the restaurant serves bland food). Just tell them how hot you want it and they'll adjust it for you, simple.
Try a chicken chasnie (think thats how you spell it) Slightly sweet and sour but with a kick.
