what plants can i put in pots and expect to survive at minus 26 in the day and possibly minus 40 at night? im moving to chicago and they have such deep snow and low temperatures from dec - feb but i would like to see some plants on my patio. any ideas?

Why don't you visit a garden centre when you're out in Chicago? They'll have a better idea than us!
You should always wait a year to do a garden when you move house - to see what comes up during the year. Look at your neighbours gardens and see what does well.

In England I would suggest snowdops, hellebores, hammemelis, vibernum and crocus not sure about US though.
