we had a meal in chinatown in Liverpool a while ago and they served these little white sweet dough balls with a sweetish filling as part of a starter. Does anyone have any idea what these are called and where I can get a recipe to make some or where I can get them from. They were gorgeous!

Char sui buns? Sweet barbeque pork filling? You can buy them in any Chinese supermarket - and Liverpool's got a fair few. If you want to try and make them try typing dim sum into google - you'll find loads of sites.
Oooh, you're talking about Japanese Mochi. It's actually made from rice flour and filled with sweet bean paste. You can get these from sushi restaurants like Yo! as well as some oriental supermarkets. I got a friend to bring me some from Japan this year but have devoured them all, so will be going back to a patisserie in Chinatown to get some more.
you can get them from www.hoohing.co.uk or other chinese supermarkets. usually in the frozen food section. dip a teabag into boiling water and add sugar to taste with a slice of ginger to make the broth. the dumplings that have black sesame filling are the best
